A dual-sport that was ahead of its time, the Honda Transalp was offered to the US between ’89 and ’91 as do-it-all bike that was less off-road biased than the Africa Twin. Powered by a liquid-cooled V-twin, the first generation of the TA produced approximately 50 horsepower and was capable of 110 miles per hour. This example stands out as it was recently given a frame off restoration and was then further farkled to make one hell of a classic, pavement-indifferent tourer.
An original MSRP of $4,498 is actually rather similar to what you’ll have to pay for a nice example nowadays. Weighing 450 pounds, the bike was a little heavy for single-track, but if you could only have one bike and wanted to tackle a multitude of terrain, a Transalp with some luggage was tough to beat. Post restoration (which happened four years and ~2,000 miles ago), the current seller threw lots of goodies at this TA, including Givi crash bars, Happy Trails panniers, Pelican top case, Pivot Pegz, Ricor Intiminators in the front forks, an Ohlins rear shock, Trucklite LED headlight, a Renazco seat, Oxford heated grips, a MRA touring windshield, and more. This bike is very well modified for the money.
