Here’s a true oddity – the Drysdale Dryvtech 2x2x2. The name comes from being a “two wheel drive, two wheel steer, two wheeled bike.”
I suspect you’re going to want some more information. First, head on over to the “home page” of this bike for an introduction to Ian and the concept. The bike is a one-off built by Ian Drysdale – after it was completed it was bought by a private collector and spent some time at the Donington Motor Museum in the United Kingdom. It seems that the bike was then sold to the current owner, and now it can be yours. It was built to see how effective two wheel drive (and steer!) could be in the dirt – apparently it’s impossible to slide the back tire out and the bike will even highside you in mud. For an explanation on how the system works, check out Drysdale’s own page on the bike. The engine is a 250cc two-stroke based on a Maico unit. Top speed with one wheel drive was 62 miles per hour, top speed in two wheel drive was half that.
Currently, the Drysdale Dryvtech 2x2x2 is running, however because it has been sitting for a while some of the O-rings and seals are leaking in the hydraulic circuits. That’ll be fun to fix. Note that this bike sold at a Bonham’s auction in 2011 (presumably to the current seller) for $9,044 including the premium.
