A rare find in the world of Buell, the Westwind was an evolution of the RR1000 Battletwin. A tube-frame sportbike powered by a Harley-Davidson 1200cc engine, the RS lost some of the aggressiveness of the RR, which made it a much better street bike. Plus, the half-fairing meant you could actually see the unexpected Harley powerplant, and other cool components.
Production numbers are hard to find and there’s some debate about them, but I’ve seen a few people refer to a total run of 443 RS1200s – 67 of which were made in 1991. Expect 70 horsepower from the Harley engine, 462 pounds of weight, and a top speed of about 120 miles per hour. For more on the RS1200, check out this article from Motorcycle Classics.
This Westwind is claimed to be #17 – the seller suggest just 382 of the breed were made. I love the white/red paint job, and the seller says he has “all the history and doc’s on this motorcycle.” Find this Westwind for sale here on Craigslist for $8,500 in Belvidere, Illinois.
