Sturgis is about to end, which means the time is right to look at a special edition Harley dedicated to the event. In 1991, HD released a customized FXDB to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Sturgis rally. Here’s one of the 1,600 examples.
I’ve seen a slight variance in production estimates for the Sturgis, but Mecum states that 1,557 were built, 400 of which went to Europe and Canada. The plaque on the bike itself says 1,600, so you have to wonder if actual production did not meet the planned run. The FXDB Sturgis was the first of the Dyna line and it emphasized the black/orange Harley paint scheme over acres of chrome.
This example has 16,000 miles and is said to be in “like new” condition. It has a Corbin seat, but the original seat, windshield, and bags are included. Find this Harley-Davidson for sale in Wauconda, Illinois for $14,500 here on Craigslist. I picked this one because the pictures were decent, but the price is steep. Here’s an example in Hermosa Beach, California for $8,500 with a rebuilt engine and some custom touches, and here’s an example in Phoenix with 50,000 miles, spoke wheels, and other custom parts for $6,500 also on Craigslist.
