In 1990, Moto Guzzi released the 1000S, styled to look like an update of the ’75 750 S3. It sold poorly but the classic styling has held up over the years and unlike the average Guzzi, the resale values for this model are somewhat staggering.
The 949cc v-twin engine was pulled from the Le Mans IV/V (updated thanks to Walter in the comments) and pushed 82 horsepower at the crank (72 at the rear wheel) through a 5-speed transmission, good for a top speed of 128 miles per hour. Three versions were built over a 4 year period – based on the cockpit, carb, and color scheme, this looks to be a Series 2, of which about 500 were made. Both the Series 1 and 2 bikes produced 81 horsepower, more than the later bikes did (71, using the motor from the Cal III).
This example (VIN: ZGUVVCVV6MM200048) has just 8,446 miles and per the seller it’s got the factory cast wheel option. It’s had three owners from new and it’s claimed that “besides the tires, every part of the bike is original and unmodified.” A recent service included a carb rebuild, fluid flush, and some minor adjustments – the seller says that it’s ready to ride.
