Post-Sale Update: Well, that was quick. This Bandit was snapped up for the BIN of $2,200 within 30 minutes of this post.
Americans typically think of the Bandit as a 600 or 1,200, but Suzuki also made them in 250 and 400 variants – the latter of which was exported to the US for only a couple of years. The 400 was introduced in 1989, by ’91 it had optional variable valve timing and a “Limited” version came with different cosmetics and a front fairing. Here’s one of the base models that was available in the US, and it’s claimed to have been fully restored.
Depending on the export market, the Bandit made between 50 and 60 horsepower. It’s a hard to find bike that reminds some of a baby Ducati Monster. This seller has the right idea – it’s reasonably priced and somewhat rare, making it an interesting mid size option (like the Honda CB-1) that could function as a commuter or a learner track bike.
This example (VIN: JS1GK75A2M2100138) has just over 5,600 miles and has had just one owner over the last 25 years. It comes with a new battery, recently cleaned carbs, and a factory tank bra. It’s not too difficult to find a decent example of the Honda CB-1 – it seems like riders took better care of those bikes – but I feel like most Bandit 400s I’ve seen are a bit beat up, which makes this find all the more pleasant.
