Post Listing Update: This FJ did not get any action at the unmet opening bid of $3,900 on eBay.
When the Yamaha FJ1100 was introduced in 1984, the press went nuts. Rider Magazine called it “the best large displacement sport motorcycle of 1984, and maybe even the best in its class in the history of motorcycling,” and other mags called it Bike of the Year. As other manufacturers debuted big-bore competitors that focused more on sport (like the GSX-R1100), Yamaha pushed the FJ more into the sport-touring category and made it the FJ1200 in 1986.
As Cycle World notes in this Retrospective, “the same basic platform endured the entire 10 years of production, a tribute to the soundness of the design.”
This example (VIN: JYA4AAHE09MA00043) has just over 29k miles and it was recently gone through after being in storage for several years: oil change, carb rebuild, and brake/clutch master cylinder rebuilds. The seller states that it “runs absolutely flawlessly and it looks extremely good while doing it.”
