YB8 = the 8th Bimota with a Yamaha engine, in this case a 1000cc EXUP, 20-valve engine which yielded 149 horsepower. I find it very weird to see the “EXUP” logo on an Italian bike, but there is something to be said for Japanese reliability with Italian design (even if this does look an awful lot like several other late 80s/early 90s Japanese sport bike from the front.
As you’d expect from a Bmota, this is well-equipped with a Bimota frame that evolved from the YB4, Yamaha electronics, fully adjustable Marzocchi suspension, 320mm Brembo calipers, and more. As I mention above, it looks more like a Japanese sportsbike than most other Bimotas, but that doesn’t mean it’s ugly. For more on the YB8, check out this article on MCN by Practical Sportsbikes. This example (VIN: ZESS8YA23NRANS003) has 3,200 miles (the seller thinks it might be in kilometers but it even from the included photos it looks like the gauges are in miles) and its said to be in “A+ condition.” The seller has the full service history, manuals, brochures, and some paperwork showing that the original price was $23,000 back in 1992. He acquired it from someone who had it on display in his living room for years. He includes a video of the bike with some riding (but you’re going to want to skip to about 2:30 to save your ears a lot of grief:
