If you’re not a big Japanese sportbike fan, this may just look like a standard middleweight Ninja. But the “K” models (built between 91-92) were homologation specials built so that Kawasaki could go racing in AMA Superbike. 500 example were built, 142 of which were exported to the US with an asking price that was nearly twice what Kawasaki charged for the base ZX-7R. The extra coin yielded 120 horsepower from a tweaked engine, fully adjustable suspension, close-ratio six speed transmission and a 39mm flat slide carb.

The extra horsepower came from a 500rpm higher redline paired with higher compression. It didn’t hurt that Kawasaki was able to shave off 10 pounds from the base bike. In a 1992 test, Performance Bikes magazine got 110 horsepower at the rear wheel (Kawasaki claimed 120 at the crank) and hit 158.5 miles per hour – all while returning 41 average miles per gallon.

This example (VIN: JKAZXDK10NA007395) has 7,724 miles and it’s well documented with what looks to be 100s of photos in the listing. It’s being offered by the third owner who got it in 2009 but apparently has not put any miles on it. The bike has a period Muzzy stainless steel exhaust and some other aftermarket pieces like a fender eliminator, but all the original parts are included. The seller has kept this in display mode in his climate-controlled collection and now it looks like this bike will be moving on to another one.
