The TDM850 was a bit of an oddball that was about 15 years ahead of its time. A pavement-focused dual sport like the Ducati Multistrada or the BMW S1000XR, the TDM gave riders the ability to explore any paved road in comfort with the option to explore fire roads to their heart’s content. Unfortunately, not many riders in the US back in the early 90s saw the point, and it only sold in 1992-1993.
With a long travel suspension and an engine derived from the XTZ 750 Super Tenere (a bike that won Paris-Dakar), the TDM is a ‘do-anything’ road bike that’s not going to break the bank. While it sold very well in Europe, this bike was simply too ahead of its time in the States, and it sold terribly. You got great reliability (though some people had issues with clunky 1-2 shifts), 78 horsepower, 56 pound feet of torque, and reasonable suspension travel.
This example has approximately 30,000 miles and the seller says that it’s been meticulously cared for. The sale includes an extra set of wheels with road tires (it’s currently equipped with off-road rubber), never-used crash bars, and GIVI tank bag/hard panniers.
