Post Sale Update: This Paris-Dakar sold for $7,900 after 31 bids on eBay.
The BMW R100GSPD (PD stands for Paris-Dakar) is my favorite of the dual-sporting BMW’s – even if this specific example is yet more proof of my theory that in the 80s and early 90s, BMW’s designers had a lot of trouble with color selection.
The GS never was about speed – the 1000cc boxer yields just 60 horsepower, though the torque numbers were good. It’s heavy, but it’s reliable and easy to maintain. For more information about the bike (and an explanation of why this lumbering beast was so successful), head on over to Cifu Motorsports.
This specific BMW R100GSPD (VIN: WB1048900P0047817) is a one-owner bike with just 17,473 miles. There’s only a couple of touch-up spots with the paint, but the seller does a good job documenting them. Modifications include a new Omega Diode board, Dell’orto 40mm carbs, a Parabellum windshield and a relocation of the oil cooler. It also comes in the rare “Velvet Purple Gravel” paint scheme, which is definitely unique.
