The Ducati 888 SPO was a limited edition of the 888 – only 390 were produced over two years. Featuring the trademark desmo valve V-Twin, this 888 produced 94 horsepower and were very much suited to track time. Though road legal, the riding position is what one would call “committed”, and they weren’t friendly in traffic.
The 1993 model was known as the 888 SPO, while the ’94 was technically known as the 888LTD. Slight improvements contributed to a quarter mile time of 10.81 seconds on the way to a top speed of 157 miles per hour. For a limited edition Ducati, the 888SPO gets very little mention and is relatively underappreciated it. Keep your eyes peeled for head and base gasket leaks, and you should be fine. This is just a beautiful bike that won both the World Superbike and AMA Superbike championships in 1993.
This specific Ducati 888 SPO (VIN: ZDM1HB7R1PB000511) is claimed to be museum and collector quality, and it’s being offered by the second owner who has not added anything to the 712 miles he bought it with. This beauty is a 49 state model, so it does not come with the charcoal canister that the CA DMV would want to see. Still, I don’t expect this bike to realistically get significant miles ever put on it, which is a shame.
