In 1992, Ducati took their 900 Supersport and added several choice extras to create a limited edition called the Ducati Superlight – 953 examples were built over 2 years. Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, in 1993 they removed almost all the extras, leaving just a fully floating rear brake to differentiate the limited edition from its less exclusive brother. Today we featured a beautiful example of one of those ’93 models.
The 900SL featured a 80 horsepower, two valve v-twine engine with the desmodromic valves that Ducati is known for. The Superlight also got a single seat, instead of the usual biposto setup, and a numbered plaque on the triple trees. As noted by a commenter below, it also got composite Marvic wheeles. And while it sounds like it’s got all the right features and limited exclusivity, there’s one thing that might take the wind out of your sails. The actual weight savings you got with a “Superlight” version? About 6 pounds. Ducati fans didn’t care, and plenty paid the hefty premium for this limited edition. Ducati considered it a sales success.
This Ducati 900 Superlight (VIN: ZDM1LC4M5PB006673) has 33,255 miles – I love to see bikes that have been enjoyed. The seller is a prolific motorcycle customizer who bought it last July. There’s some minor cosmetic flaws but lots of mechanical work has been done recently, including rebuilding the clutch slave cylinder, installing new cam timing belts, adjusting the valves, and servicing the carbs. The bike has a K&N air filter, Helibar risers, the exhaust from a FE, and more.
