Built to compete in the 2023 “Broke to Built” build-off, this CR250R is claimed to have over $10k invested and only 45 minutes of riding time on it since it was built.
Honda completely redesigned their 250cc 2-stroke MX bike in 1992, and the following year resulted in some tweaks like a stronger frame, revised swingarm, and some changes to the motor. In their “Classic Steel” article about this bike, PulpMX notes: “To this day, the ’93 CR is considered by many to be the pinnacle of Honda 250 two-stroke handling. It was so good in fact, that Jeremy McGrath continued to use a ’93 chassis on his works Honda’s every year until the switch to aluminum in 1997. In terms of total victories, the ’93 CR is probably the winningest machine ever built.”
“Broke to Built” is an annual competition which is supposed to celebrate the biggest transformation of something beat up into…well, whatever the judges like. While this CR did not win last year’s competition, you can see in the below video that the builder (Clint Lund) definitely “transformed” it considering the starting point:
Highlights of the modifications include a 2009 Honda CRF450 front end, custom triple clamps, Phathead ported cylinder and head, Answer carbon fiber muffler, Smart Carb, HRC frame brace kit, UFO period correct engine covers, and much more.
