Post-Listing Update: This Bimota DB2 did not attract any attention at the opening bid of $14,000.
One of the few 100% Italian Bimotas of the 90s, the DB2 featured a 900cc 2 valve Ducati engine (best known for its usage in the 900SS). It was never the fastest bike in the world, but for many the experience of owning a Bimota is worth it just for the name alone, for those who thought Ducati wasn’t exclusive enough.
The profile view is great, though from the front it looks an awful lot like the Suzuki RF600R. The successor to the DB1, this bike shows off a bit more of the distinctive frame, and stood out from even its Ducati sibling with incredible handling thanks to top notch components. It came with 41mm Paioli forks and a rear Ohlins shock, both fully adjustable. The air-cooled V-Twin yielded 86 horsepower (a slight upgrade from the 900SS thanks to a different intake and exhaust system. Weighing just 370 pounds, nearly every press reviewed ended with a comment that this was the best Bimota yet. Want to learn more? Check out this summary from Sports Car Market in 2009.
This specific Bimota DB2 has 6,000 miles and it quite original. The only exception would be custom made adjustable handle bars, though it will come with the stock bars as well. You’ll also surprisingly get heated grips, which is a bit of a head-scratcher. The seller claims that only 50 were built, but that’s simply not true – several sources insist the production number of the basic DB2 was 408, from 1993-1995.
This isn’t the first time this bike has been up for sale recently – I suspect that’s due to the high asking price for the initial bid – but find this Bimota DB2 for sale in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania with an opening bid of $14,000
