Yamaha’s TZ125 production road racer was offered between 1980 and 2010 – Yoshiaki Kato won the All Japan 125cc Championship on one in 1993. It utilized a 2-stroke 124cc single cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed transmission, but that doesn’t matter in this case as today’s example utilizes the 4-stroke 250 out of a Yamaha WR250X supermoto!
The obvious question is what changes with power (besides the way it’s delivered). The TZ125 makes 42 horsepower – the WR250X engine puts out 30 hp and 18 lb-ft of torque (though Yamaha quotes 25k valve checks on the latter). The seller is someone I know and trust, he says that it’s competitive with Ninja 400s and it would be ideal for Sound of Singles 1 or 2. “I love this thing, but I am getting older and just had spine surgery, and I am reducing my collection, so I’d like to see it go to someone who appreciates these small-bore bikes and how much fun they are.”
