Post Sale Update: This Monster did not get any action at the BIN of $4,900 on eBay.

If photos of the new Monster have you hankering for one of the originals, here’s a lovely 1st generation in all of its classic styling in the largest displacement available at the time – the M900.

The Monster debuted in 1993 and it was an instant classic, even though the initial idea was basically a parts-bin special. It was designed by Miguel Galluzzi, who said “in the mind of a motorcyclist, you need a gas tank, a seat and a motor.” And that’s pretty much all he included. Per this excellent buying guide, when Miguel showed design prototypes to management, they said “are you bringing the rest of the motorcycle later on?” Hindsight has proven Miguel to be a wise man, as the Monster is the best-selling Ducati model of all time. The original was the M900, a 2-valve air/oil cooled V-Twin with carbs. It was also offered in 600 and 750 variants, but the 900 was (and still is) the one you want.

The seller of this example says that it’s in perfect running condition with new tires. Extras include Fast by Ferracci Forza carbon fiber mufflers, and plenty more carbon fiber pieces: frame covers, gauge cluster cover, and tail assembly. It also has a Woodcraft open clutch cover and Ohlins shock.
