Post Listing Update: This Ninja was pulled off of eBay, final sale price unknown.
Over time there have been a few bikes that bear the name of someone truly important to the model or the marque, like the Ducati’s Paul Smart or Mike Hailwood Replica. Kawsaki’s ZX-7RR N1 was known as the Muzzy Special, thanks to Rob’s involvement with the company – what may make this example so special for you is that the first owner was none other than Rob himself. Apparently some bidders are finding that to add some extra value as bidding on this bike is over $15k with plenty of time left to go…and it hasn’t yet met reserve.
The N1 did not get a bump in peak horsepower figures over the base ZX-7R, the homologation special stood out thanks to features like an adjustable steering head angle and swing arm, 41mm flat slide carbs, slipper clutch, upgraded suspension, close ratio transmission, and 6 pot Nissin brakes.
In addition to Rob Muzzy, this bike (VIN: JKAZXDN18TA000090) has had three other owners. According to the seller, the story is that this was a leftover bike that Muzzy had been given to go racing with, so he titled it for the street and owned it himself until 2003 – putting just 35 miles on it in the process. Now this bike has 1,877 miles on it – though a previous owner once wrote down 770.0 miles and the DMV took it as 7,700. The bike looks great though there’s a couple of ‘scuffs.’ Impressively, it seems to be all stock. The seller drained the bike, had it detailed, and then put it into climate controlled storage. The sale includes a bunch of paperwork and the original key, tool kit, owner’s manual, dealer brochure, and service manual.
