1998 Yamaha TRX850

In Japan, Sport by AbhiLeave a Comment

The TRX850 was a little bit of a ‘parts bin’ special – it was a blend of the TDM850 and the FZR that came together in an attempt to challenge Ducati’s 900cc SuperSport (note the trellis frame). This bike was never officially sold in the US, so if you’re looking to stand out with your ride among people in the know, here’s your chance to get a bike that lots of reviewers tried to call “a Ducati with Japanese reliability.”

The parallel twin 849cc engine produced 79 horsepower and it was the first production engine with a 270 degree crankshaft. Sales were disappointing and Yamaha killed it after 4 years, but the bike seems to be remembered quite fondly by moto-journalists and owners. I’ve ridden one a couple of times and enjoyed it quite a bit though the parallel-twin just wasn’t as engaging as Ducati’s 900 and the front suspension/brakes were underwhelming. For more on the TRX, check out this review from MCN.

This example has roughly 25,750 miles and the seller says that all maintenance is up to date. It was imported from Japan and is offered with a US title (though the seller doesn’t specify what state).

Find this TRX for sale in Aurora, Colorado for $7,000 here on Craigslist.
