1999 Aprilia RS250 with SXV450 Engine

Reminisicent of Super Single racers from back in the day, this Aprilia RS250 is actually powered by the 450cc parallel-twin V-Twin engine from Aprilia’s SXV450.

This is an interesting choice for a motor swap. In ’99, Aprilia claimed either 55 or 72 horspower out of their 2-stroke motor depending on the setup – we sold one on Iconic that showed 60 hp at the rear wheel on a dyno. Of course, that happened in a very narrow part of the powerband. With the 450 motor, Aprilia claimed 60 hp at the crank with a much bigger hit of torque – but the 450/550 motors used in the SXV and RXV had some reliability issues. Do you think the engine swap is an upgrade?

The seller notes that this is “one of less than 20 in the world“, referring to RS250s with this conversion. He also notes that the swap was done to “maintain RS250 CG [center of gravity] and handling qualities with the 450 twin four stroke power plant” – he includes a diagram in the listing which suggests that the new CG is now about an inch forward and an inch lower than before.
