In 1999, Ducati released a special edition of the Monster. They called it the Cromo, and it was obviously named due to the distinctive tank, which was complemented by a carbon fiber rear seat cover and rear fender. It also got adjustable front forks and the high-po 74 horsepower engine. The next year, Ducati added fuel injection to the Monster and cancelled the Cromo. Ducati aficionados will know that the brand brought the Cromo model back in 2001, though that bike lost most of the goodies like the adjustable front forks – it was basically base Dark model with a shiny tank. Let’s go back to the ’99 model: it seems that just 101 were brought to the US, though plenty of Monster owners have sourced Cromo tanks to put on their non-Cromo model.
This Ducati Monster Cromo has had some aftermarket additions like a MotoCreations exhaust, a tail tidy, chrome plated seat cover, and dual headlights. Thankfully, the seller has all the stock parts – the original light has to go back on. The bike has less than 5,000 miles and is claimed to run like a dream. Issues are limited to a faded speedometer cluster and a crack in the carbon fiber. If it matters to you at all, this bike was owned at one point by Max Papis, an accomplished auto racer who’s currently in the Nationwide Series.
Find it for sale here on Craigslist in Detroit, Michigan for $7,900.
