Post Listing Update: This Z1R-TC did not meet reserve despite 37 bids up to $16,900.

The Kawasaki Z1R-TC has the distinction of being the ‘first’ of many things. Most importantly, it was the first turbocharged bike released into the market, kicking off the 80’s turbo bike push which included bikes like the Yamaha Seca Turbo and the Honda CX650 Turbo. In addition, this was the first Japanese sport bike with a handlebar fairing.

Only about 500 of these bikes were produced worldwide, (250 in the United States) – and they were actually sold without a warranty. Built through a partnership with Turbo Cycle Corporation, the Z1R-TC was sold in limited numbers through Kawasaki dealerships. Want to learn more? Kawasaki Z1R-TC - Rear Left

This specific Kawasaki Z1R-TC (VIN: KZT00D-005639) has just 6,235 miles. The owner acquired it in 1980 and has only put 50 miles on it since! After years of storage, it was taken outside and apparently fired right up. Right before being stored, the bike got a $11,000 rebuild which included a 1,250cc engine and Cal-Fab swingarm (3.5 inch extension). The original 1,015cc engine is included in the sale.
