Post Sale Update: This Bostrom rep sold for $18,299 after 16 bids on eBay.
Ben Bostrom was represented by #155 when he competed in AMA Superbike with Ducati’s 998S. So Ducati used that as the number of copies that should be built when they created a limited edition replica. 155 were built for the US and UK markets, making a total of 310 tanks that Ben signed himself.
The MSRP of this bike in the US was $22,695 – your extra money got you Ben’s signature on the tank, an Ohlins fork, and a semi-replica paint scheme – for some reason I have not been able to determine, Ducati wasn’t allowed to paint the replicas like the race bike, so they based the paint scheme on Ben’s helmet instead. Unfortunately, your extra money did not get you any goodies in the engine, which is a bummer as the UK model got an upgraded motor. “S” models in the US did have upgrades over the base 998, though, and they included 4 pot Brembos, Ohlins steering damper, carbon belly pan, and a larger exhaust.
This example (VIN: ZDM1SB5VXBO15177) has just 2 miles on the odometer. It’s being sold by the original owner who has only kept it in his living room as an “art sculpture.” It’s said to be perfect with no scratches, dings, or dents. The seller implies it’s as close to as new as you’re going to find.
