Post Listing Update: This Monster did not get any interest at the opening ask of $4,500.
Ducati has always been known for producing raw, fire breathing superbikes, but it was the Monster that kept the R&D dollars flowing. The air cooled V-Twin and dry clutch are classic Ducati, and the design for all Monsters has hardly changed since the model launch 25 years ago. Having spent the most time personally on a Monster 697, I would best describe Monsters as updated versions of an old design. 25 years of history combined with small and steady revisions probably means they got it right.
There are plenty of Monsters around, but when present in a garage the Monster is often the go to choice resulting in some high mileage motorbikes. For more on the Monster, check out this review on Visordown. This 2000 Monster 900 (VIN: ZDM1RA4N7YB002886) has just 9,915 miles, and is still owned by the original owner. Aftermarket parts include an exhaust, an Ohlins shock, and some carbon fiber trim. The no reserve bid starts at $4,500, almost the same price as an Akrapovic system for a new V4. Would you rather have a titanium exhaust or a Ducati Monster 900?
