10/11 Update: Try 3! We expect the bike to sell this time, as they’ve finally lowered the opening bid to something feasible, and there’s no reserve. Check it out here – but if it doesn’t sell, we’re not featuring it again.
10/4 Update: Try 2 – this bike has been relisted yet again, with a BIN price of $8,200.
9-24 Update: After 20 bids, this Harley Davidson MT500 did not meet reserve at $7,500. It was relisted here with a starting bid of $6,600.
At Bike-urious, we’ve got a serious weakness for what is probably the oddest bike HD ever made – the Harley Davidson MT500. What’s killing us is that there’s been a surprising amount of these oddballs up for sale in the last few months – though none of them have been as close to new as this example is.
Only select HD dealerships were allowed to sell these bikes. Some raffled the bikes off, with proceeds going to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, others were sold between $10-11.5k, depending on if you got luggage and/or one of the greatest options ever available on a motorcycle – a mounted gun case for a M16 rifle. These bikes had both an electric start and a kick start – note that the kicker is on the left side.
With just 4 miles on it, and only a Certificate of Origin, it’s hard to imagine that there’s another example of the MT500 that would be more mint…if it wasn’t for the incredible shame that the key has been lost and the ignition has been replaced with a toggle switch. Despite that flaw, it’s clear that this bike is only going towards a collection. We appreciate that the seller is at least forthcoming about the fact that they’re flipping this bike.
Find this Harley Davidson MT500 for sale here on eBay in Salisbury, Massachusetts with an opening bid of $100.
