In 2000, Ducati updated the 748 lineup to offer three variants – the base model, the S, and the R. The R was produced for WSS homologation purposes (750cc V-Twins competed against 600cc inline-4s). Only 2,610 R models were built, 185 of which came to the US. 100 of those came in 2001, including this one.
There were several differentiators to the R compared to the base or the S – Ohlins suspension, a larger airbox (with a slightly different frame to fit it, MCN says it has the “same frame as the ‘Foggy Rep’ 916,” a slipper clutch and oil cooler. But the most significant (and coolest) difference was inside the shower injector system, which was also paired with titanium valves and connecting rods.
This example (VIN: ZDM3H74R61B007309) has 5,168 miles and it’s offered on a clean California title with non-op registration. The seller notes two scratches in the bodywork and some brake fluid spatter on the rear wheel. “Aside from those flaws, the vehicle is very clean for being 20 years old.” Recent maintenance (in the last two months) includes a clutch/brake fluid flush, oil change, new Dunlop tires, and timing belts.
