Erion Racing has had a long line of success flying around racetracks in AMA competition as Honda’s premier support team. Back when Honda released the 929 version of the Fireblade, Honda honored Erion’s work with the Honda CRB929RR Erion Racing Edition. Mechnically, it was the same as the stock bike, though the cosmetics were exclusive and a Erion Racing pipe was available from dealers. Now, these limited editions fetch a solid premium over what is already an excellent example of a well built, if not the fastest, early ’00s sportbike.
Compared to the Yamaha and Suzuki competiiton, the 929 was a little down on power. Subjectively, the argument for the Honda was the increased reliability – plus nowadays it’s the rarer option, if you’re into that. The inline 4 engine gained fuel injection, helping it produce 148 horsepower. The rest of the bike had evolutionary changes from the 919, including a 17 inch front wheel (as opposed to 16) and a pivotless chassis that had the swingarm mounted right to the engine casing. Dry weight was 380 pounds, and the whole package was good for a top speed of about 175 miles per hour. Reviewers of the time claimed that the 929 was the easiest to maneuver of the Japanese liter bikes, almost feeling like a 600 in terms of size. The only concern was an increased propensity for head shake when you really twisted the throttle.
This specific Honda CRB929RR Erion Racing Edition (VIN: JH2SC44321M100968) has had some modifications. Though one of the pictures shows a D&D exhaust, it will come with a Two Brothers carbon fiber slipon. In general, the mods are reversible, though the wheels have been powder-coated white as opposed to the original black – I think the white might actually look better. In addition, the underbody light kits have to go, but the rest of the bike looks great thanks to the low mileage (3,600).
