A couple more months and this bike has found a new flipper – looks like Dogtown Cycles in Santa Monica is now trying to sell it with a higher BIN – find it for sale for $26,900 or best offer
3-01-16 Update: The Barracuda is back! I think this bike is so cool, so I hope it finds a seller this time. Thankfully, the seller realized that an opening bid of $22k wasn’t doing much good, so now it’s got an opening bid of $1.00 and I guess we’ll figure out what the reserve is. Give it a shot
Post-Listing Update: This Barracuda did not get any action at $22,500.
Nico Bakker made a name for himself starting back in the 70s by taking Japanese engines and enveloping them in better frames and suspensions. His focus was usually on race bikes, those in recent times he’s also built some road bikes. In the late 90s, Bakker built the Barracuda as a race bike, and he instantly started winning in the ’99 Dutch Battle of the Twins championships – so Bakker decided to make a road bike, as well.

The Barracuda features a custom chromoly frame built around a Suzuki TL1000S/R V-Twin engine. WP or Ohlins suspension complements Brembo brakes, Akrapovic exhaust, 5-spoke Marvic wheels, and even Cagiva headlights. For more information on this bike, check out this page on Bakker’s site where you can get a pricelist. In addition, special mention is made of Nicolas Cage, who used to own a Barracuda. Well, it turns out this bike (which somehow has the awesome VIN of BAKKER007), was Cage’s old bike. Meh. If you’re looking for riding impressions, check out this review from Carole Nash.
This bike has just 765 miles on the odometer and was part of a collection of sportbikes. It’s rare, it’s weird, and Cage already took care of the hassle of importing it for you! What a gentleman. The seller says the bike is ‘close to mint’ and that he could not see any issues other than some tiny blemishes that are too small to photograph.
