IZH, also known as Izhevsk Machinebuilding Plant, has been making motorcycles since 1928. But that’s not why you know them. You know them as the manufacturer of the ubiquitous Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifle. But seeing as this website isn’t called “gun-curious”, let’s talk about one of their more recent models, the IZH Jupiter 5.
This year of the Jupiter features a 350cc liquid-cooled two-stroke two-cylinder engine that produced 24 horsepower. In the motherland, these bikes were used for basic transportation, as wlel as converted into a cargo-carrying trike like the Moto Guzzi Hercules, as well as police and firefighting duty. For more on the IZH company, check out this excellent history from Autosoviet.
This specific IZH Jupiter 5 has less than 600 miles and comes with several manuals and new extra parts. The battery and petcock have been replaced, and the seller rides it around the neighborhood every few weeks, so I assume it’s still in good running condition.
Find this IZH Jupiter 5 for sale here on Craigslist in Mustang, Illinois for $3,200.
