Before BMW took the motorcycling world by storm with the S1000RR, their idea of a sportbike was to put aggressive bodywork around the trusted boxer engine to create the BMW R1100S. I don’t mean to sound demeaning with that, as I owned a R11S for a while and I absolutely adored it – it just wasn’t a real sportbike, though it was a wonderful all-around streetbike in the vein of the Honda VFR800. BMW went above and beyond with a couple of limited editions, including the Boxer Cup Replika as featured today. BMW created a spec series to race these bikes, and 300 examples were released as a homage, with Ohlins, a Laser exhaust, and the custom paint with Randy Mamola’s signature.
This specific example is #46 of 300 and has 23,000 miles on it.
