For KTM fans, the letters RFR are something special. They stand for Rally Factory Replica, and they designate bikes that compete in legendary races like the Dakar Rally. This one’s participated in the Dakar, as well as the FIM Rally (now called the Desert Challenge) and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb!
The seller provides a great history of this example (VIN: VBKGSE4014M771158):
“2004 Dakar Rally. The original ownercrashed the bike and did not finish the race and put it up for sale
2004 the second owner purchased thebike and raced the FIM Rally in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, now called the UAE DesertChallenge. The bike was sponsored by Power Horse Energy Drink Team. Power Horseis the Red Bull of the Middle East. This bike was officially the first fully sponsored Energy Drink Rally Motorcycle. Red Bull was just starting to comearound the Rally scene with Factory KTM
2005 the second owner leased the bikeout to Pal Ullevalseter (multi time Dakar Finisher) for the UAE DesertChallenge who finished 6th overall which gained him 3rd overall in the FIMRally World Championship.
2005 to 2013 the bike was stored inseveral garages in Dubai, but never ridden
2013 the bike was imported into the USA
2015 the second owner race the bikeat Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb. The bike was sponsored by Tivoli Beer, the oldest beer brand in Colorado – older than Coors.
2016 to 2020 the bike was only stored.
2018 The 3rd owner (me) purchased the bike. I rode the bike only twice before I changed the oil and sawthat the oil screw had a lot of metal shaving. I found the oil system wasincorrectly assembled (no oil line to the oil storage in the frame) Since I wasnot sure haw much damage the motor had and I had a very good contact with KTM factory racing I purchased a brand new LC4 Rally Dakar 660 motor.
2020 the rebuild and installation of the new motor where completed.”
As the seller puts it, this KTM “has a rich history and a brand new motor.” I look forward to seeing how the next owner adds to the former!
