Introduced in 1996, the Honda XR400R was impressively successful – Dirt Rider magazine notes that it was the only 400cc bike at the time that had any sort of low-end or mid-range power. Honda barely changed the bike until they discontinued it in 2004 and replaced it with the CRF450X. But in 2005, Honda released a new variant in just a few countries like Japan and Australia. This was the XR400SM, a supermoto version with 17″ wheels and street tires. None were officially imported to the US, but here’s your chance to snag one anyway.
The 397cc air-cooled single produced about 29 horsepower and 24 pound-feet of torque, which had to push around 319 pounds of bike. The seller claims that just 3 of these made it to the US, something I cannot verify. This was imported from Japan, so unlike the XR400’s the US saw, it has an electric starter. It has a clear Colorado title and is claimed to run and look like new. I’m not the world’s biggest fan of the stickers, but it’s not like you have a lot of options if you’re looking for this bike in the states.
Find this Honda XR400SM for sale here on Craigslist in Brighton, Colorado for $4,500.
