The first time I met Bike-urious reader Glen Irani, he let me take his Ducati Hypermotard 1100S out for a spin – I’ve been in love with the air-cooled model ever since. Here’s one that started life as a display bike (Ducati used it for the model’s unveiling on the rooftop of the Beverly Center in Hollywood when they debuted the bike in the US). Actor Eric Dane hosted the event, and he was the first owner. The second (and current) owner then went absolutely nuts with aftermarket parts catalogs.
The stock bike was already a joy thanks to 90 horsepower at 76 lb-ft from the 1,078 air-cooled twin – the dry weight of the bike was under 400 pounds, and the “S” model came with upgrades such as Marchesini wheels and an Ohlins shock. But that doesn’t being to tell the story with this bike (VIN: ZDM1YACP48B000311), because the seller has added an absurd amount of aftermarket upgrades ranging from carbon fiber pieces to Brembo master cylinders, Termignoni exhaust, Wagner Lewis slipper clutch, race cams with matching ECU, and plenty more.
The seller is moving to Italy after 20+ years in the US and in his words, “this bike has been modified so much that I would never be able to re-register it in Italy.” There’s less than 11,000 miles on the odometer and it really seems like a fantastic way to have fun on two wheels.
