For years, Harley-Davidson dominated the American police cruiser market. Though BMW, Kawasaki, and other manufacturers are now also making motorcycles you’re constantly scanning for when you’re on the road, Harley also offered a police variant of the Buell Ulysses called the XB12XP which offered better ergonomics and the potential for easier patrolling on fire roads or rough surfaces. This example was bought new by a civilian, and it’s got less than 2,000 miles.
The cop bikes were available in Birch White or Midnight Black – this example is one of the latter. For more on what Buell did to make their adventure-tourer a police bike, check out this article on Total Motorcycle.
This example is being sold by the original owner, and the seller believes it’s #35 of the 137 police-spec bikes that were offered to dealerships to sell to the public. The seller says the he has “too much stuff” and this bike doesn’t get enough use – seeing as it is nine years old and has less than 2,000 miles, that seems like a reasonable assessment of the situation! The bike got a break-in service at a Harley dealer at 1,000 miles and it got an oil change a couple of months ago. There’s an aftermarket battery and it comes with the police-spec luggage, which apparently differ as the side bags are slightly narrower and can be opened even while you’re sitting on the bike.
