I’m always surprised to see high dollar motorcycles on Craigslist, so I was doubly perplexed when I saw a listing for a couple of impressive old MV’s.
Both are being offered by the same seller – we’ve got a:
1. 1956 MV Agusta CSS/5V Squalo
Squalo is Italian for Shark, and the seller claims that this was a full factory race bike, though I would need to see some more information. The Squalo has a 175cc engine that produced approximately 16 horsepower. The CSS seems to be a race bike available for privateer efforts, and while it was original developed to compete in Italian Formula racing, it ended up dominating 200cc classes all over Europe. When new, they cost more than a Manx Norton. When you bought these bikes from the factory, they came as a single cam, but MV offered an optional twin cam version that could be retrofitted on – bikes that were so equipped were called Bialberos. It seems that this Squalo sold at MidAmerica in Las Vegas for $39,000 in 2012.
It comes with two fairings (including a glorious dustbin) and a spare engine.
2. 1971 MV Agusta Sport 4C75 1A
A 4-cylinder with shaft drive, just 33 of the 4C75 variant of the 750S were built. It was more of a touring bike than MV’s usual offerings, but the engine produced 66 horsepower. The drum brakes were generally considered to be poor. Just like with the Squalo, it seems this bike sold at auction for $60,000 back at MidAmerica Las Vegas in 2012. It comes with a chin fairing.
Not much information is given on either specific bike, but at this price point, you were going to call the seller anyway.
Find these classic MV’s for sale in Port Huron, Michigan here on Craigslist for…wait for it…$215,000. You’ll also get a 6×10 foot MV Agusta banner that’s still wrapped in factory plastic:
