In the upcoming issue of Motorcyclist magazine, I’ll feature a few bikes that are “Performance Steals” for the Smart Money column. One of them is the KTM 990 Adventure, which was the most off-road capable big bike of its time. In 2011, KTM offered a “Dakar Edition” which yielded slightly more peak horsepower thanks to a 500-rpm higher rev limit, hand guards, crash bars, and the exclusive paint job. If you spend more time on dirt than on pavement but still want to carry all your camping gear (and more), it’ll be hard to go wrong with this sub-$6k example.
In 2011, KTM offered 3 versions of the 990 ADV. There was the base model, the “R” model (more suspension travel and 117 vs 100 hp), and the Dakar Edition. For more information on the Dakar Edition 990, check out this quick review on Motorcyclist.
This example (VIN: VBKVA9404BM977539) has 38,542 miles and it’s equipped with a few extras beyond the normal goodies that come with the Dakar package. You’ll get auxiliary lights, Akrapovic exhaust, and luggage racks. Find this KTM for sale in Worcester, Massachusetts for $5,895 here at Wagner Motorsports.
