Post Listing Update: Despite being relisted, this Gixxer did not meet reserve with 34 bids up to $9,700.
If you asked me to guess how many GSX-Rs have ever been built, I never would have guessed a number in the seven digits. So kudos to Suzuki on their success. To celebrate their achievement, they released the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 1 Million Commemorative Edition, a worldwide release of 1,985 bikes (as that was the first year of production).
Unfortunately, this bike isn’t much more than a retro paint job which harkens back to the original GSX-R. A quick scan of Suzuki’s website for this bike reveals the “upgrades” over the standard bike, including “unique pin stripe design on the wheels”, “red-colored rear suspension spring”, and my absolute favorite, “red-anodized front fork caps to further enhance the bike.” Come on. I realize that Suzuki is far from the only company guilty of doing this, but I can’t imagine that Hiroshi Fujiwara (Suzuki engineer who was principal designer of the bike) would consider red fork caps to be an appropriate commemoration of his breakthrough bike. I am probably being too harsh on what was simply a easy cash grab idea by someone in Suzuki’s marketing department.
This specific Suzuki GSX-R 1000 1 Million Commemorative Edition (VIN: js1gt78a0d2100728) has 700 miles and is #50 of the 1985. This bike has several extras, including a M4 carbon exhaust, Power Commander 5, and some cosmetic pieces.
