I have to admit I have never been a BMW guy [Editor’s Note: one of August’s few flaws] and I only really have had short amounts of time on an S1000RR and a R1150GS, both of which I thought were good bikes and I have always been intrigued by the boxer engine that BMW used on so many models. Additionally I have always admired most BMW riders whom I always considered a bit more serious and gentlemanly than myself, but then again I am a high school dropout that has had my license suspended more than once.
I recall when the K1600 debuted and thought it was interesting but did not pay much attention to it as I was still a year away from buying my first VFR, an old man’s bike they said. More than a decade later and after some time on a Goldwing, the K1600 looks a lot more interesting. Visually it appeals to me more than the Goldwing and it seems sportier. And that engine…that is the main draw for me with the K1600, I probably don’t want to work on this thing but would love to take it somewhere in the Sierra’s for a week or more!
When I saw this 2014 K1600 GTL my first thought was that this seems like a lot of motorcycle for $11,000! It has a day long seat, Wilbers shocks and all the options from BMW. Would love to hear of your experiences or thoughts on the K1600 in the comments!
