UPDATE: Here are my thoughts on the new Yamaha SCR950!
Next month, Yamaha’s introducing another model to their “Sport Heritage” line. It’s called the SCR950 and in Yamaha’s words, it “combines vintage, scrambler style with modern design…that lets you venture on- and off-road for pure motorcycling fun.”
At first glance it looks like Yamaha took the Bolt and slapped some “scrambler” parts on them (though I always felt one of the defining features of a scrambler was a high exhaust). In fact, this looks an awful lot like the 2014 Bolt that was customized by Doc’s Chops (now Hageman MC) which won a Yamaha-sponsored competition and then traveled around the country:
I featured that bike when it went up for sale last year – it eventually sold for $16,250. Later on, Hageman offered a $1,120 kit that you could use your Bolt which included a subframe, seat, rear fender, and numberplates. Pipeburn featured the build with this foreshadowing quote:
“Greg made a conscious decision not to cut the bike into pieces by way of showing off his fabricating skills, but to produce a realistic build that could be inserted into Yamaha’s line up and sold ‘as is’ at their dealerships. The motor remains relatively stock. A set of custom laced wheels and dual sport tires were added, alone with many other details that’s turned this (let’s face it) HD Nightster clone into something that’s so much more.”
Well, it looks like Yamaha has been inspired, and I’ll be attending the upcoming press launch of this new model – what do you want to know about it?
