2018 Alta Redshift EX

In America, Dual-Sport by AbhiLeave a Comment

Last month, Alta announced that they were updating the dual-sport Redshift EX model with the new EXR. To clear out space for the new model, Alta recently started offering $3,500 factory rebates on the 2018 EX. If you’ve ever been curious about what it’s like to own an electric bike, this is probably the sign you’ve been waiting for.

I’ve adored electric bikes ever since I got the chance to try the Zero FXS a couple of years ago:

The FXS is a great bike, but Alta’s Redshift truly feels like the next generation – as long as you have a priority on performance over range. Part of that is due to the incredible motor, which produces 50 horsepower and 147 (!) pound-feet of torque at the front sprocket, though the latter number is cut to 42 pound-feet at the tire with some gear reduction. But to me, Alta’s bigger advantage is in the components, which include WP suspension, Brembo brakes, Metzeler tires, and even Cycra hand guards. The 2019 model was just revealed to press and reviews are trickling out, like this one from Motorcycle.com.

While there are definitely improvements with the new bike, the 2018 model is by no means outdated. Here’s what Dirt Rider had to say about last year’s bike. With the rebate, the price is now down just to $9,495, and that should make it very appealing to try out.

Find this specific example for sale at TJ’s Cycle in Austin, Texas – but you should be able to find them at the same price at your nearest Alta dealer. My closest Alta dealer has one for even cheaper, so if you’re near Beverly Hills Ducati you can snag one for $8,999.
