Over on the auction site, we’ve got one of the most incredible sport bikes I’ve ever seen. This is a Pierobon X80R kit that was built by Michael “Woolie” Woolaway (formerly of Deus Ex Machina fame and now at Saddlemen).
Pierobon currently offers four frame kits, each designed for different generations of Ducati V-Twin motors from the 1299 to the 2-valve air-cooled units. The model name for the frame designed to accept 1098/1198/848 engines is X80R, named for the 80th birthday of Pierobon founder Riccardo Pierobon. The main trellis frame is built out of EN AW-7020 aluminum alloy and it weighs just 16.2 pounds. The complete X80R kit costs $27,000, and that’s just the start. Woolie’s X80R kit includes a quick change rear wheel setup, custom aluminum shock link, custom aluminum frame, custom aluminum swingarm, custom aluminum sub frame, custom aluminum gas tank, custom aluminum fairing mount, custom aluminum rear sets, custom carbon fiber bodywork, custom wind screen, custom rear fender, carbon fiber front fender, and custom seat pad. In total, there is approximately $75,000 of parts in this motorcycle.
The motor is a Ducati 1098R (1,198cc) with DucShop serial #24 – “we believe this was one of the factory race motors.” It cost $7,000, and it was then built by Mark Sutton of Ducshop in Marietta, Georgia to the tune of $9,400. The motor has four heat cycles on it. It has a billet pork chop crank that was balanced with heavy metal plugs, Pistal titanium rods, Pistal high compression pistons, 1098R cams, EVR carbon fiber air box and intake runners, and stainless steel valves for better reliability. The engine is paired with a Nova close ratio gear box ($3,500) that features a EVR 48 tooth slipper clutch housed in a Woodcraft billet clutch cover, and Ducati 1098RS shift drum/shift forks with roller bearings. “This makes the bike shift like a Japanese bike.”
The build list is staggering, and you should check out the listing for all the details. Find this Pierobon for sale in Santa Monica, California with bidding up to $35,001 and the reserve not yet met here on Iconic Motorbike Auctions.
