Canada’s attempt at the MX world, the Can-Am TNT 125 was one of many dirt-oriented bikes produced during the short but very sweet lifespan of Can-Am. An acronym for Track ‘n’ Trail, the TNT bikes shared the same chassis and engine as the MX bikes, but utilized lower compression for easier riding traits on trails. Here’s one that stands out as the seller claims it’s never been ridden.
Lasting only 3 years, the TNT series was soon replaced by the Qualifier model range. Can-Am tried to get around the small displacement of the 125cc engine (built by Rotax-Bombardier) by marketing an “Index of Performance”. Their point was simply that their 125cc, 20 horsepower engine had to pull a bike that only weighed 248 pounds wet, so it was just as fast as bigger bikes that were saddled with more weight. A 2.5 gallon gave riders some range when exploring trails. Want to learn more? My favorite source on classic Can-Am bikes is Canned Ham.
This example shows 3.3 miles on the odometer, and the seller believes it’s never been ridden, sold, or titled. “I was able to purchase this from a gentleman who had some other bikes for sell and located this one in a storage container on his property where he had put it away many years ago. It was very dusty and dirty from years of storage, but I could tell underneath the grime, that it was indeed new as he said.” It’s still on the original tires which “show no signs of wear” though they understandably have some dry rot. The seller adds, “Just to be clear: this is an almost 50 year old motorcycle. While it is technically new, there are some items that show wear. If you wanted to make it close to perfect, I’d re-chrome the wheels and triple tree/head stock nut, re-zinc the spokes, new tires, new fender and side cover decals and that would be about it. I would seriously question doing anything to this particular bike however, as it’s only original once and likely the only new 1974 Can-Am left in existence.” Weirdly, the kick start lever, gear shift lever, and throttle cable are missing, as is the tool kit.
