I’m going to leave the intro to this to the seller: “This streamliner is currently the fastest gasoline powered streamliner in the SCTA record book.” In addition to the SCTA record, it also “qualified at 398.227 miles an hour with an exit speed of 409.421 miles an hour on 24 lbs. of boost, while the car was in impound, waiting to back up the record the next day there was a rain storm, and the salt flats were flooded, the SCTA canceled the meet.” So, here’s a crazy chance to try and top 400 miles per hour for yourself!
Per the seller, “the streamliner was originally built in 1995 by Jack Costella and set countless records and various classes from flat heads to turbo four cylinders. In 2008 Rick Yacoucci became the driver of the streamliner. The streamliner has also set countless records at the El Mirage dry lake bed also under SCTA sanction including the blistering record of 284.732 miles an hour in class E/BGS on the standing start 1.3 mile dirt course.”
There’s plenty of other good quotes in the listing:
“The drivers compartment is very tight, so if you are claustrophobic, you’ll have to get over it like I did.”
“If going 400 miles, an hour is not your thing this streamliner is super efficient and can set records in virtually any class you build an engine for. For example, we installed a really bad ass, unblown ford flathead on alcohol and set a record at 280 miles an hour.”
You can find more photos and information here on this website – it was listed on Bring a Trailer in September and did not meet reserve with bids up to $85,000 and it’s on Facebook Marketplace with an asking price of $150,000.
As I’m sure you’re curious, here’s a 360 degree video of the 398 mph run:
