Post Sale Update: After 4 bids on eBay, this Matchless G9 did not meet reserve at $10,101
The Matchless G9, almost identical to the AJS Model 20, were built produced for 10 years starting in 1948, and represent Associated Motorcycles’ attempt to produce the heavyweight parallel twins that seemed to be coming out of every British motorcycle company during the time.
Matchless called their bike the Super Clubman, named for the dual seat, megaphone exhausts, and bright chrome finish. As this was one of the earliest versions of the G9, it is one of the lightest versions of the breed, though it’s also missing a couple of incremental improvements, such as the Burman gearbox and upgraded rear suspension. This specific Matchless G9 has many of its original parts, as it has only covered 168 miles over its 60+ year life! Apparently, this bike was left behind at a dealer, sitting idle for decades. As of the early 1990’s, it only had 16 miles on it. A minor cosmetic restoration was performed, and the result is what you see before you. It’s highly likely that this is the lowest mileage Matchless G9 you’ll find anywhere in the world!
