If you like Excelsior-Henderson but you don’t have the coin to buy the entire brand, maybe I can interest you in this early production example of the Super X, an attempt to bring the company back in the late 90s.
Based on the fact that the entire brand is about to go up for sale, you can correctly assume that the Super X did not do very well. Just 1,952 bikes were built between 1999 and 2000 – E-H was trying to raise another round of funding but the .com bubble popped and the fundraising wasn’t successful.
This example stands out not just for the low VIN but also because it’s had already had some fixes for common Super X issues taken care of. On top of that, it comes part of the original crate that’s been signed (presumably by former E-H employees), as well. It has about 8,000 miles and is upgraded with badges that note this is one of the first 100 bikes built, custom seat, custom saddlebags, an extra exhaust, and lots of E-H memorabilia: brochures, manuals, belt buckle, patches, newspaper articles, and a show banner. The biggest issue with these bikes was a flaw with the transmission, and this bike has had that taken care of. There’s some wear in the chrome and the paint, but that just means you can actually ride it and not worry about the value plummeting just because you put a few more miles on it.
Find this Super X for sale here on Craigslist in Cameron Park, California for $8,500.
