Post-Listing Update: This R1 got no interest at the opening bid of $6,500.
It can be hard for me to get excited about bone stock Japanese supersports, but this early R1 is truly worth a second look. First of all, the first generation of the R1 was something special. History looks upon it very kindly as one of the three iconic sportbikes of the 90s, along with the Honda Fireblade and the Ducati 916. Here’s your chance to get one of the earliest examples of what Sport Rider called a ‘landmark bike’.
Basic specs of the R1 were 150 horsepower, 419/448 pounds dry/wet weight and a 54.9 inch wheelbase. When it came out it was more powerful, lighter, and smaller than all of its competitors. Heck, it was even smaller than many 600s of the period.
This example (VIN: JYARN02E8WA000084) has 17,118 miles and is claimed to be in excellent original condition. The carbs were recently sync’d and second gear/the corresponding shift fork have been replaced with updated components. The sale includes an OEM shop manual, owner’s manual, and the tool kit.
