In the seller’s words, this is “the Bonneville Triumph should have built.” His/her opinion is that Triumph did a great job with the design (though I’d argue their effort paled in comparison to Kawasaki’s W series) but they were too conservative with performance (now that I agree with). So, this custom was designed to upgrade performance – now it’s putting down 85 horsepower (compared to the adequate-but-Triumph-could/should-do-better 53 horsepower at the rear wheel) and it weighs 40 pounds less than the stock bike. Not bad!
I don’t mean to say that the production Bonneville doesn’t make enough power…I just think it should make more. But that’s a discussion for another day. Apparently the owner of this bike agreed, because he’s added 30 ponies and removed 40 pounds of weight. Highlights of the modifications include 903cc pistons with 11.5:1 compression, headers from a Thruxton, Nology coils and cables, airbox eliminator, Excel rims, Ohlins shocks, Progressive fork springs/Ricor Intiminator fork valving, TPUSA clutch springs and mufflers, Corbin seat, and more. The top end was redone less than 2,000 miles ago and the bike now has 7,865 miles on the odometer. Have you been looking for a Thruxton? Drop everything and buy this instead.
