Post Sale Update: This custom R60/5 sold for the BIN of $6,500.
Equipped with a rare Avon Lynx fairing and a R90 motor swap, this show-winning BMW (do we call it a 90/5?) is an interesting twist from the usual airheads that we love.
The motor swap on this example (VIN: 2930404) was done over 15 years ago by Craig Immel (former owner of Heritage BMW) and it was paired with the original 4-speed transmission. The R60/5 badging remains so the only clue for those in the know is larger Bing CV carbs. The more obvious modification is the Avon fairing which includes a dark Gustaffson windhield (clear included) as well as the Gustaffson bubble nose. Other upgrades include a humpback seat sourced from Germany (original 2-up seat included) and Wixom bags. Also included in the sale is the original tire pump, tool roll, and some spare parts.
While everything works, the seller notes that there are some issues as to be expected with a 48 year-old bike – there’s a “dimple” in the right side of the tank, the fairing paint is showing its age, and there are are normal amounts of minor scuffs and wear. I like the idea of this bike a lot – classic /5 styling with a power bump!
