I wish this was an April Fools’ post, but it looks like I’m going to miss my first AHRMA race of the season.
Did you miss Part 9? I finally have a bike that’s probably worth racing.
As noted in Part 8, before you can participate in your first AHRMA race, you have to complete their race school (or an equivalent). Unfortunately, the only weekend that they’re not offering the race school is, of course, the weekend of the race I was planning on participating in at Buttonwillow. I signed up with Classic Track Days as they were offering a school this past weekend at Willow Springs.
Well…as you can probably guess from the title of this post, Mother Nature had different plans. I got an email from Brady Walker of Classic Track Days three days before the school was supposed to happen:
Hey all!
It is with a heavy heart that I must cancel this Saturday’s Classic Track Day. Rain is one thing. But the temps are projected to be no higher than 50 degrees. Add the wind and it creates a very unsafe environment for a motorcycle trying to go fast.
He’s planning on moving the school to April 13th, but I will have to be in Austin that weekend for MotoGP (I’ll post about that separately, hopefully I’ll see you there). So, it’s looking like I won’t be able to go to race school (you can call me uneducated) before the Buttonwillow round and I feel a bit stuck. I’ve searched for alternatives from other track providers (Pacific Track Time, Z2, Let’s Ride, Carters at the Track) but no one’s going to have a class before I fly out to Texas.
It’s not the end of the world – this just means I’ll be racing two events and not three this year. But it is disappointing and it gives me less to share with you. Know someone who can put on a private race school with barely any notice? I’d be interested in talking to them!
Seeing as this post is just disappointing news and not much substance, here’s a sneak peek for the future: we’re 3D-printing some velocity stacks for the 160. Technology is cool!
On to Part 11 – I finally get some laps in on a track!
