When snow hits the ground, most riders put their bikes away for the new few months. Well, the people at Aerostich aren’t most riders, and they’ve built a reputation of creating gear for the lunatics that ride no matter the conditions. Looks like they’re testing their gear (and a Zero electric motorcycle) by riding every day during a winter where the temperature can go as low as twenty below zero, and they’re going to share the experience with you.
In partnership with Zero (who has loaned a FX “Stealthfighter” for the test), Aerostich is going to test their gear and Zero’s electric bike in the cold of winter. I do not envy them – this seems like it’d be fun to do once in a while, but not daily! As you’d expect, the bike needed some prep work. It’s been given heated grips, a warming wrap for the battery (similar to Aerostich’s heated vests), studded tires, and more.
The bike will only be parked outside and will get to enjoy this (a screencap of outside the Aerostich building) for the foreseeable future:
So, will the cold ruin an electric bike? Will Aerostich’s gear sufficiently protect its volunteer riders/employees? Go here to check it out, and you can subscribe for weekly updates if you’d like.
Oh, and just so I can gloat…here’s my weather for the next few days. The S90 is getting plenty of exercise!
